Link Round-up June 2011
Some of you may know that in my copious amounts of spare time ;) I enjoy collecting links to interesting sites and articles. In the interest of keeping a record of them instead of just posting on statuses and forgetting them, I've decided to post a summary of them on a regular basis:
Science:
Crossing arms can reduce arm pain because of the lateral compartment-like organization of the brain.
RNA editing mechanisms exist to introduce alterations in the mRNA that are not reflected in the DNA sequence.
Chile Volcano Eruption Pictures looks like scene straight from Mordor.
Step toward understanding gray hair
In quantum realm, properties vary depending on how they're measured, even without entanglement
Artificial meat This reminds me of Soylent Green and one of the episodes from "Better off Ted".
The magical Gomboc always flips to the same point, and tortoises have apparently co-opted the idea.
Humpback whiles hunt with bubble nets like dolphins do with dust-plume "nets." There's a lot of cleverness that we don't quite give enough credit for.
Recipes:
Cheesecake part cloud
From
bakebakebake:
Banana chocolate cupcakes
Oreo fudge bars
Oreo cake
Fluffy Hum:
Shakespeare as a word terrorist
"Badass" composers
Videos:
Excellent Guns N' Roses with cellos. It's interesting how well cello fits the metal style.
Useful way to store long cables.
Excellent Doctor Who fanvid. The voices are pretty weird, but the animation is significantly better than the official 3D animated movie, Dreamland.
